I have used the yahoo widget gshredder to wipe info of hard drives
after erasing the the files needed, The defragmenting and a single pass
wipe to get rid of some of the data that might reside between the end of
file and the end of the file sector. Symantec used to have a defrag
utility that would defrag and wipe at once. If you can mount the drive
on a second system, just wipe the whole drive or partition. Then install
the Linux of choice.
It maybe possible to come up with a usb-flash drive with scripts and
programs to do the job automatically.
