[Eug-lug] mesh network, experimentation theory

please correct me, if I am wrong, ( my infinite. newbie-ness, may  hereby, be exposed..)

If I want to experiment with a linux mesh network,  is all I need: (??)

1) running pc, with linux OS
2) wi fi net-work cards, that play nice with linux
3) mesh network protocols, bound to the above, network cards
4) wash, rinse repeat, with another system

with both of these systems re-booted, and running, I should have a mesh network, (??) presuming the antenna, are within, each others range?

if I have a wired Ether net card, I just have to bind, the mesh network protocol(s), to build a local wired mesh network (for experimentation, and practice)

can I run multiple mesh networking protocols? or would that cause complex, negative, issues?

if I  could install, two or more cards, with antennas,(on a single linux box)  can I configure each card to run a single frequency, and assign a simplex mode, on each channel? (two cards = send + receive @ the node machine?) from what I understand there are really only three wi fi frequencies available.. this method should ( in theory) boost  data throughput of the system ??
