Are you referring to Linux Mint? If so it's based on Ubuntu but it's not
released by the Canonical. When I looked at it last it was Ubuntu +
pretty much every media codec available for linux, legal or not, on it.

If you need real 3D then you are, at this point, going to have to binary
drives. For that, you want nVidia. Stay away from ATI at the moment,
unless you like pain.
