I don't know about mtr and have not tried it. I'll look it up. We have
SunRocket for our home phone, which my wife uses. I also have a VOIP
extension from an Asterisk server in San Francisco.

Have you already run mtr (multi-traceroute) tests? mtr is r0x0r. :)
I assume you're running your own VoIP, not Comcast's own phone,
which runs sideband and gets routed by them...?
