[Eug-lug] Questions about OpenBSD/NetBSD

I'm migrating the firewall/gateway/router to OpenBSD
from Slackware 10, just have a few questions for the
resident OpenBSD expert (can't remember the name, it's
been so long).
Is writing a firewall script in OpenBSD as
(comparably) easy as writing one using iptables under
Linux?
Also, I noticed the installer seems to want to install
a shit-ton of packages in one go instead of allowing a
more pick-and-choose approach. Is this a true
statement or does the "official" CD offer a different
approach to package installation?
And, because I'm lazy, does Open or NetBSD have a Java
compiler and virtual machine? Maybe a port from
Linux? I'm leaning towards NetBSD for my laptop and
Java is crucial (as well as OpenOffice, but that can
be replaced with a similar word
processor/spreadsheet).
Thanks in advance!
