Bob,

Who knows.  I don't think your doing any web surfing on it.  Not only
that I don't think you can run a Java stack on there.  I also don't
know what malware is out there for said OS.  I think the largest
problem with sell low cost computers is this.

Normal end users don't update there software.
Normal end users don't upgrade there anti-virus subscriptions.
Normal users just want there computers to work nothing else.
Normal users don't understand that DSL and Cable Modem connections are
always on.

With these issues at hand you can see why there are 3,000+ botnet
channels on IRC.

I think the ISP providers don't do enough to stop there users from
becoming problems.
ISP's should be firewalling there users off from the rest of the
world.  If you need to ssh to telnet or what ever X service you should
pay extra.  Basic Internet service should be low cost like under
$15.00 dollars a month.  IMHO

Anyway I think Bob's Mac OS 8 machine is fine.  The problem is older
version of Windows and the fact that un-patched Windows XP machines
can be taken over in less than a hour on a unfiltered Internet
connection.
