[Eug-lug] hardware query...

My 1990 Geo Metro XfI averages 50 mpg. If I follow truckers closely, I
can get as much as 60. I am trying to find ways to improve it, like low
rolling resistance tires and LED lamps in all the sockets, but during
the really cold months, the snow tires are reducing my average mpg to
around 48. Also toying with disabling the alternator and just charging
the battery at home.
I think the future as far as fuels go is totally dependent on the
ability of big Oil companies to maintain their huge profit margins.
Unless we as voters actually do something besides talk about it.
Regards to all, Jim Darrough

Hey Allen,
Good one to ask since you own one. (Doing a little straw poll of owners
to see if what I've heard is true).
Buddy with the first model (looks like an Echo) claims that in the fine
print it says straight up that the energy and resources it takes to
create one of these hybrids will never be recovered in the reasonable
life of the car.
Is this true?
(About half the Prius owners I've asked say yes, other half say
bullsh*t).
BTW, love how this thread is unraveling--or re-raveling.
