Looking at long-term reliability is the issue. As Q stated, Asus
is a good choice in motherboards. I'd also go with Abit or
Gigabyte. Gigabyte has been in the process of moving all their
boards to solid state capacitors which should help with
stability. I've seen far too many failed Asus boards for them to
be my number one pick but if you're going AMD you can't go with
an Intel motherboard. As long as you use ALL good quality parts
(especially the power supply), use a UPS that at least has AVR
if not line conditioning as well, and don't run Windows you will
likely have a reliable box.
One thing about warranty/RMA, a few companies are offering three
year warranties these days which is good BUT the typical
turn-around time is 2 to 3 weeks as most will NOT cross-ship
unless it is a server board or possibly a workstation class
board. Intel ships replacements on ALL qualified boards within
48 hours when purchased from the right distributors.
Just my $0.02.
