The Corvallis Chapter of the Software Association of Oregon (SAO) and
the Corvallis Benton Chamber Coalition are having a trade show type
thing for all of the local high tech businesses in the region.
It is an opportunity for businesses to share with each other
and the public what types of projects they are working on. Often
high tech businesses sell to an audience that is far away,
and so no one knows what the other companies are doing.

By being aware of what projects are going on, businesses and the
community can help each other in a couple of ways. First, by
knowing what services and products other companies have, it can
help to buy local. If you can get a product from a local company that
you would have ordered from someone far away, it helps the local
economy grow and become more stable. Secondly, if people are
aware of the products and services , then it becomes more
likely that social networking will be able to make connections
 that help move things forward.

For the last two years the event has been held in the Corvallis Inn
on 9th street in Corvallis. (Old Nendels/Ramada) Typically,
there are 40-50 companies there. And typically there are 200-300
people who come thru. There is an effort to grow it a bit this year.

The cost of a table ranges from $80 to $200 , depending on several
factors. But we have arranged for a couple of non-profit groups
to get tables for free (First robotics, Lug, and a few others)
The cost of getting is ranges from $10-$12, for students, the price
is discounted to $3-$5. So it will save a couple of bucks
 to register ahead of time.

There will be food and drink, a few speakers, and mostly an opportunity
for people to talk to each other about what they are up to.

The show runs from 4:00 to 8:00 on October 12. Before the event,
there will be an OEF (Oregon Entreprenuers Forum)(http://www.oef.org)
Workshop on Business Plan Development from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
The cost for the workshop will be $30.

 You can register at:
 https://www.oef.org/events/registration_details?reg_name=BPDS&venue_id=13

So this is an opportunity for Linux Users Groups to connect with the
tech community in the region. There will be network at the show,
so demonstrations are possible. Having some handouts or some swag might
be interesting. Last year, they handed out Ubuntu disks. Perhaps a
wider Open Source perspective and demonstrating Open Office would
be interesting. There are a couple of how to convert your business
to open source articles that have gone by. Perhaps one of those
would be good for a handout.

The event should be fun, interesting and a real opportunity
to learn about who is doing what in the area.

Does that provide enough background detail?
