Heh, yes, I know about transcoding.  There is always a way to get things
done with software (plus processor & storage & time!!)... this discussion is
trying to suss out the right cards for people's varying needs.  As Alan
wrote, later in this discussion, transcoding takes a lot of time (to do it
well, anyway).

My specific question was actually whether you can get raw video from the
card -- that is, whether mpeg can be avoided at all with this card.  Anyone
know?  Sounds like not!
