Well, I now know enough to get a different card ASAP
and move on from there.  Although the link from Mr.

is almost as interesting as the various practical
fixes proposed by this august body!

It is so very cool to see how the fixes get put in and
 the OS is told to disregard earlier commands.  I'm so
used to seeing DLLs etc. having to be tweaked with
tools that never allow you to grasp the under-the-hood
functionality.  

Is Euglug ever going to use its amazing talent to
educate us masses on a grand scale?  Or at least a
weekend seminar?  Where do we go for booklearnin'
'round here?  It seems like it would be so easy to
generate a great deal of interest.  Every fried-out
windows user that I've talked to about Ubuntu has
asked for CDs.  So far I've handed out 4 copies that
are going on 'ol 800mhz garage boxes as we speak. 
Seems like the world is right there... waiting for OS!
  

Well, enough of these gyrations... got cranberries to
prepare!
