[Eug-lug] Recompiling in Ubuntu

I've been trying to sign on to AOL using my Ubuntu box. I know my modem is  
working with my linux box, so now I need an AOL-dialer. I downloaded the tar.gz 
 of Linspire's AOL-dialer, burned a copy of it and sneaker-netted it to my 
Ubuntu  box.....now what? I can't seem to find any support documentation for how 
to  install it. My friend said I should recompile it, but I have no clue how 
to do  so. Any assistance on this would be much appreciated!!!!
