Run ldd on /bin/ls.  If libacl.so is in the list, you are not okay.
Re-emerge coreutils, verifying that it builds with the "-acl" USE
flag.

I also learned from the OSU linux list that after installing a
new gcc, you should run fix_libtool_files.sh.
